Glimpse of Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a country located in the Middle East, right at the heart of Bilad al-Sham. Its capital and largest city is Amman, with the majority of its population being Arabs, and Arabic as the official language of the country. Islam is the dominant religion, with most Jordanians adhering to Sunni Islam.

Jordan possesses an extraordinarily rich historical and cultural heritage, with important archaeological sites such as Petra – listed as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, the ancient city of Jerash, and the Wadi Rum Valley, which has also served as a filming location for famous movies such as Star Wars, The Martian, and Lawrence of Arabia. Jordan is also known as the “Land of the Prophets,” as many Prophets are believed to have had connections and left their marks in Jordan, including Prophet Lot (AS), Prophet Moses (AS), Prophet Shu’ayb (AS), Prophet John (Yahya) (AS), Prophet Jesus (AS), and Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a constitutional monarchy. King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, the 41st generation direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), has reigned since 1999. He holds the responsibility of custodianship over the holy sites of both Islam and Christianity in Al Quds Al Sharif (Jerusalem), including Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa.

Jordan is also renowned for its economic growth, safety, and stability of the nation and its people. The literacy rate in Jordan has consistently remained high compared to other Arab countries, reflecting the nation’s emphasis on education. Linguistically, beyond Classical Arabic (Fusha), it is also essential to understand and become familiar with regional dialects such as Jordanian, Saudi, Egyptian, and Syrian Arabic, which can be naturally acquired in the heart of Bilad al-Sham. This makes Jordan an ideal environment for learning Arabic, where education is regarded as sacred and deeply valued by its people.
